A good listener! Have you ever wondered why humans have two ears and only one mouth? James 3 describes the mouth as "The Untamable Tongue."
Bible Verse:
"A bit in the mouth of a horse controls the whole horse. A small rudder on a huge ship in the hands of a skilled captain sets a course in the face of the strongest winds. A word out of your mouth may seem of no account, but it can accomplish nearly anything—or destroy it! Remember, it only takes a spark to set off a forest fire. A careless or wrongly placed word out of your mouth can do that. By our speech, we can ruin the world, turn harmony to chaos, throw mud on a reputation, send the whole world up in smoke and go up in smoke with it, smoke right from the pit of hell."
James 3:5-6 MSG
The Main Topic of James 3 is "The Power of Words" and How we could give life or kill! If you notice, James is addressing this word to teachers and those who want to teach in the first verses. We tend to listen to our Leaders, Teachers, and People of Influence because of a few things. We see them as examples; they speak with wisdom and make something difficult to understand easy, or they inspire us to be better. Therefore, he explains that NOT everyone should become a teacher! Because of the same reason-The Power of Words.
For this reason, we need to be good listeners; not everyone comes to help you improve; they might see you as a threat! I have always said and will retain that a good leader believes in people, but a GREAT leader pushes that person to be better, has faith in them, and finds connections to expand the vision, especially if it is kingdom-based. There's no time for envy, hatred, or death conversations. A good listener will always make the time to listen to a friend, analyze how to help, and seek help or support. Jesus was a GREAT listener, Leader, and Teacher. He always listened to the people's needs, taught the disciples how to become leaders, and even said to them, "You will do Greater things." he even went down to their level for them to understand what he was trying to say, and he believed and pushed them to be their best.
A good listener focuses entirely on what another person is saying and thoughtfully and comprehensively engages with their ideas. Good listening is not just about learning what a person is saying, but also about making a commitment to digesting the information they are presenting and responding constructively.
If you have the opportunity to be a good Listener today, be that person! Learn how to listen, serve, give, and help someone if you have the resources, and if not, go the extra mile. You have no idea who needs to be heard. A good listener! Have you ever wondered why humans have two ears and only one mouth? James 3 describes the mouth as "The Untamable Tongue."

You have no idea who needs to be heard. There are so many broken people with no one there to just listen. Let's be quiet for a moment and listen.
Prayer:
Father, help me be a good Listener! I know that human nature is of selfish descendant. But today, I choose to listen to my kids, husband, wife, mother, dad, sister, brother, friend, and neighbor. I don't want to be a selfish person who only thinks about the benefits I will receive by helping others. Instead, could you help me be a good listener? Listen to their trials, processes, tribulations, doubts, and battles and extent that helping hand. Please help me be more like you and less of me. Please help me be a GREAT listener! 🙏🏽
- Amen
